Job description: I am currently recruiting for an IT server support engineer to work in South London.

This role is initially for 3 months and does fall inside IR35.

The successful candidate will undertake a range of operational support duties and technical and professional activities under the direction of their line manager. This can include the supervision of people and the management of a range of ICT assets. You will be required to make key decisions which directly impact on the availability and reliability of ICT functionality for business users in the Council.

You are generally expected to work without supervision but the work will be reviewed on a frequent basis against agreed targets. Candidates will plan and monitor their own work, and that of any staff for which they are responsible, as agreed with their line manager.

Some of the work will involve resolving issues beyond the ordinary operations of the ICT Service, or contributing to new programmes or projects.

Knowledge:

* Good understanding of the procedures and process involved in installing, maintaining and disposal of servers and ICT infrastructure

* Excellent understanding of multiple hardware and software platforms

* Good understanding of procedures and processes required to monitor the performance of ICT hardware

* Good understanding of diagnostic tool and techniques required to investigate ICT infrastructure issues

* Good understanding of change management practices in an ICT environment

* Good understanding of tools and techniques that can be used to test software releases

* Good understanding of how to work within agreed practices to maintain effective ICT solutions

* Good understanding of delivering within agreed business processes to support ICT users through effective customer service and operational delivery

* Good understanding of how changes to information systems and technical architecture may impact on ICT users

* Has appropriate specialist knowledge commensurate with the role and level of responsibility

* Some understanding of the latest ICT innovations in their specialist area is desirable

* An understanding of the activities of a local authority is desirable
