IT Support Technician

Job description: My client, a Local Council in East Sussex, is currently looking for an IT Support Technician to join the company on an 2 month initial contract basis with extension possible.

The successful candidate will be expected to support the Council's information & communications technology, including servers, personal computers, laptops, mobile devices, printers, operating software, networks, and scheduled operational procedures.


Main Activities:

* The installation, configuration, upgrade and support as required of all information technology equipment across the Council, including servers, personal computers & networks, mobile devices and software products including operating systems database software & packaged software.

* The security and recovery of equipment, communications, operating software products and data as required.

* To carry out minor operational work on central computers, such as server backups, restores and routine "Production" duties.

* Technical support including, diagnosis & resolution of problems arising with the above, if necessary in conjunction with suppliers.

* To be thoroughly familiar with, adhere to and enforce site standards, methods and procedures.

* To provide advice, training and documentation for installing and supporting hardware and software products in use as required.

* To undertake such other duties as the ICT Support Team Leader, Digital Services Manager and Head of Business Services shall from time to time determine.


Knowledge/Skills/Experience

* Proven ability to handle a broad range of the systems used by the Council
* Ability to tackle & resolve problems across the range
* Helpful, efficient & effective work
* Proven ability to work with only minimal supervision
* Proven ability to provide technical guidance to more junior staff
* Strong written and oral communication skills
* Proven ability in use/support of Linux, Windows, VMWare and Microsoft Office products preferred.
* Awareness of appropriate techniques and project management methods in use
* A minimum of 2 years' practical experience measured on proven capability.
