Job description: Learning Disabilities Support Worker, Stockton-on-Tees

I am currently recruiting for a Learning Disabilities Support Worker to work within a residential based facility in Stockton-on-Tees. The position is to deliver high standards of person centred care and support to people who have a learning disability with associated complex needs.

This position is for an initial 3 months with the high chance of extension, and hours vary between 30 - 37 per week.

Candidates will be involved in all aspects of personal care delivery and participate in providing a caring and stimulating environment which promotes choice, independent daily living skills and social activities.

Candidates will be qualified to a minimum of NVQ/Diploma Level 2 in a Health and Social Care related subject.

The post requires the person to work a shift pattern covering Monday to Friday 9am to 4pm. Candidates will participate to an agreed rota but would be expected to be flexible to meet the changing requirements of the people who access the service.

Duties and responsibilities:

1. To ensure service user personal support plans are followed and implemented.

2. To create and maintain a supportive atmosphere where service users can achieve maximum stimulation and independence through encouragement and support in their participation in "activities" and personal care.

3. To participate in tasks associated with direct personal care of service users including for example toileting, bathing, dressing, supporting with feeding ensuring safe use and operation of all equipment used.

4. To contribute to the preparation and planning for the delivery of meaningful activities for service users in accordance with their outcome focused PCP's.

5. Direct delivery of "activities" taking into account individual needs of service users and their abilities.

6. To ensure all information and documentation, in accordance with service procedures, in relation to service users is recorded accurately and timely.

7. Ensure the Senior Support Worker is aware of any issues of concern relating to service users during their attendance at day services.

8. Ensure cultural, religious and linguistic needs of service users are met.

9. To ensure the safe handling and recording of medication dispensed, in accordance with procedures, and to participate in the issuing of medication to service users.
