Job description: A Local Authority based in North London is looking for a Lift Engineer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant engineering qualification, experience dealing with Lift Specifications/Inspections/Fault Finding and Maintenance works and ideally a strong background in Local Authority projects.

The main purpose of the role is to ensure all lifts serving Islington's housing accommodation are adequately maintained by developing and following a rolling cyclical programme including the replacement of lift cars when life expired/beyond economic repair.

The Principal Lift Engineer will establish and maintain clear communication with all stakeholders and assist in the development of policies and strategies. He/she will ensure an integrated customer focused service to residents of Islington and other users of the service.

The main responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

Ability to write technical lift specifications for social housing blocks
Ability to undertake contract administration
Ability to prepare contract documents
Work in conjunction with the Building Services Group Leader to develop and enhance the asset management data base relating to lifts within the area and work up annual packages of work required.
Develop appropriate design briefs, feasibility studies, specifications and tender documentation. Advise Group Leader on appropriate forms of contract for delivery of work.
Work closely with the procurement team in order to procure and appoint contractors and consultants as necessary.
Take overall responsibility for all pre-contract design work and ongoing maintenance requirements. Liaising with other Council departments, end users and other stakeholders.
Ensure that adequate monitoring is provided to oversee and coordinate the work of consultants, where appropriate.
Prepare reports for senior management team, committees, area forums, working parties, client organisations, tenant associations, and external agencies.
Attend meetings as necessary to present reports

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

An NVQ level 3 (or equivalent) in building services or suitably related subject with a minimum of 6 years post qualification experience designing and maintaining lifts.
Ability to prepare programmes of work and project manage, so as to plan and deliver projects on time and within budget and fees, monitoring and controlling costs at all stages.
Ability to undertake lift engineering design work for the installation of new lift cars.
Excellent technical knowledge and experience to be able to accurate prepare refurbishment and maintenance specifications for passenger lifts.
Excellent knowledge of building services statutory regulations, codes of practice and British standards.
Possess a good and up to date working knowledge of building services forms of contract.
Ability to write technical reports.
Ability to creatively solve service engineering design and maintenance related technical problems.
Possess good commercial acumen in order to ensure procurement of works achieves excellent value for money

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £25 - £30 p/hr Umbrella ltd (approx. £600 - £690 NET p/week after deductions) for the duration of the role.
