Job description: My client, a local authority based in West London is looking for a Major Works Officer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency contract and the successful candidate must show experience in a similar role, along with experience of recovering expenditure and lease legislation.

The main purposes of the role are as follows;

Make sure the client can recover a proportion of its expenditure from homeowners by ensuring compliance with the lease, current legislation, and prevailing case law.
Manage a patch of properties and assume responsibility for issuing statutory consultation notices, attending meetings, raising invoices (up to £15m per year) and resolving disputes.
Deliver a first-rate customer experience with high levels of customer engagement, and adopt and develop best practice in the field.
Facilitate the client's programme of qualifying long-term agreements and major works by working closely with the Major Repairs, Housing Services, Property Services, Finance and other relevant areas to establish a clear, joined-up service that is fully evidence-backed.

The main responsibilities will also include;

Accurately interpret new and existing regulations and guidelines, the terms of the lease, and the latest case law to provide expert advice to ensure the client is always fully compliant in its efforts to recover service charges.
Work closely with project managers and the contractor to ensure that the budgetary target for projects remain within the agreed parameters or that any significant variation in spend is reported to homeowners.
Arrange site meetings to monitor the quality of works at completion and beyond to ensure service charges are reasonable.
Develop and deliver training for other departments, and train new staff in functions of the service.
To provide supporting documentation for pre-assignment requests relating to the sale or re-mortgaging of a property
To collate and present supporting documentation for account inspections.
