Job description: Social Worker - Children's Advice & Duty Service, Norfolk

The Children's Advice and Duty Service is a new service which provides a single point of contact for professionals, children and their families who have safeguarding concerns relating to children in Norfolk.

The position is full time 37 hours per week and pays £32 per hour.

This is a new role and has been developed to ensure that children receive support from services that are best placed to meet their needs.

The Children's Advice and Duty Service Consultant Social Workers will discuss the concerns with the referrer, negotiate and agree a pathway for the child going forward. This may include offering advice and guidance through coaching partner agencies raising the concern.

The Consultant Social Workers will work alongside Pathway Advisors who will provide support, advice and guidance for professionals, children and their families where there are no safeguarding concerns but the children concerned are in need of support to ensure that the concerns for them do not escalate.

Consultant social workers will be prepared to carry out some face to face direct work with children and families during out of hours (5:30pm - 8:00pm and weekends) as part of the crisis intervention service when it is deemed that to do so the accommodation of that child will be prevented.

Key objectives:

* To ensure timely and safe decision making for children.
* To ensure that children get the right support from the service most likely to be able to meet their needs.
* To support others, both internal and external to the department, to improve their practice.
* To ensure all partner agencies consider consent (unless to do so, compromises the child's safety) and take a holistic look at the family issues/needs.
* Consistent information sharing and decision making
* Every contact will have an outcome
* Reduction in the number of social work assessments which are inappropriately directed to Social Care teams, including the removal of duplicate information.
* Improve working relationships between agency partners within and external to any Children's Advice and Duty Service model.
* Preventing unnecessary accommodation of children.
