Job description: An opportunity has arisen within the Financial Management team for a Deputy Finance Manager supporting within an NHS service in Southend. It provides an excellent opportunity for a qualified accountant (or part-qualified actively working towards their qualification) to progress their career in a key role and a dynamic environment. You will support clinical and operational budget holders, providing high quality financial advice and support in order that they may achieve financial balance and drive efficiencies while also delivering safe, effective, quality care. In addition, the successful candidate will require experience and knowledge in accruals, referrals, variance reviews and invoice coding.

You will be supporting the Finance Manager, providing a comprehensive financial and performance management service to the Division. You will be directly supported by an Assistant Finance Manager and jointly manage a team of Management Accounts Assistants, taking responsibility for their training and professional development.

Candidates will be required to demonstrate a good working knowledge of financial management in the NHS with experience of producing monthly management accounts, budget setting, identification and delivery of Cost Improvement Programmes and preparation of business cases for service developments. We are looking for candidates with strong analytical and IT skills, the ability to communicate effectively to non-finance staff and an ability to use your own initiative to work independently and proactively.
MAIN DUTIES

*This post is responsible to the Finance Manager - Management Accounts

*Responsible for the maintenance, update and production of financial reports to an accurate standard and in a timely manner

*Maintenance of accruals and prepayments and the correct coding of payments and payroll data

*Investigate budget variances or exceptions and compile analyses of these for the Finance Manager

*Liaise with other hospital departments to ensure financial information is collected and recorded accurately

*Undertake detailed costings to enable annual budgets to be prepared and business cases to be produced

*Assist in the production of the directorate's Business Plan

*Assist in the preparation of year-end forecasts

*Investigate budget variances or exceptions and compile analyses of these for the Finance Manager

*Assist in the collection and analysis of information for specific costing exercises or investigations

*Liaise with other finance teams and hospital departments to ensure financial information is collected and recorded accurately

*Assist in the preparation of variance analyses and exception reports, discuss and explain (as required) the various information outputs that arise from this role and help resolve queries as they arise.

*Attend meetings in support of the Finance Manager as required

*Authorise recruitment requests by ensuring that there is appropriate funding and budgeted establishment for the role
