Job description: Night Support Assistant, Bedford
A large housing association are recruiting for a Night Support Assistant to join their team in Bedford, and provide an out-of-hours responsive frontline service, providing a high standard of service delivery at reception, coordinating and organising customer involvement activities whilst maintaining regular presence through location patrols

The Scheme
The scheme is focussed on supporting homeless people back into independent living. Full capacity they have 29 people. It's predominantly men at the moment with a couple of women. Some have complex needs such as drug and alcohol dependency, learning difficulties, Asperger's, ADHD. It's over 3 floors and they are all in self-contained flats.
On the top floor its people with the most complex needs and they can live there for 9 months. The bottom 2 floors is more preparation for moving on and they can live there for up to 18 month.

The Role
In the role you will be working alongside another support assistant between 20:30 and 08:30, during which time you will have the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Provide waking night staff cover at the service on a rota basis including weekend shifts.
*Induct and train temporary ad hoc staff whilst they complete a waking night shift
*Coordinate and organise activities that will encourage customer involvement, participation, consultation and feedback within the project.
*Complete and coordinate nightly patrols in and out of the building to maintain high standards of security
*Participate and coordinate in all tasks such as patrols, providing a professional and responsive reception service
*Managing risk through regular customer contact and observation of customer health
*Participate and maintain effective communication and information systems within the project, maintaining effective levels of communication whilst informing customers and building risk assessments
*Ability to lead and manage an emergency scenario
*Complete and coordinate nightly fire equipment checks
*Coordinate and complete night patrols throughout the building as stipulated by the management team
*Respond to and address any facilities issues out of hours in relation to cleaning and routine repairs
*Report all emergency and urgent repairs and coordinate contractors to areas of the building when at the project
*Maintain high standards of organisation in working areas through the implementation of administration, filing etc.
*Provide a continuation of support service through the night to any customers presenting with support issues and/or to action any tasks handed over from the day support worker
*Maintain customer files and ensure accurate and up to date records are kept of customer contact and support provided in accordance with HCS policies including on the mps IT system.

The Candidate
To be considered for this role, previous experience within supported housing or homelessness is beneficial, but not essential. Other skills and knowledge that would be favourable include:
*Knowledge and understanding of supporting people and relevant legislation
*Knowledge and understanding of issues affecting individuals who have been homeless
*Ability to contribute to effective team working
*Ability to organise and prioritise own work load
*Ability to communicate effectively in writing including preparation of letters, reports and case notes
*Effective communication skills
*Experience of working with vulnerable people
*Understanding of safeguarding
*Have a solution focused approach when it comes to problem solving

The Contract
This is a permanent role working 36 hours per week (3 nights) offering a salary of approximately £15,370
