Job description: Part Time Communications Officer needed for Basingstoke and Deane Council, £17 ltd per hour

Start Date- ASAP
Contract End date- 3 months initially
Hours per week - 21 hours - ideally over 3 days, Monday, Thursday and Friday (but willing to consider other arrangements to cover the hours)
Pay rate - £17 ltd an hour

Description
*To advertise portfolio holders, councillors and officers on communications issues and opportunities both internally and externally ensuring the council's reputation and priorities are promoted and protected
*To provide a high standard of proactive and reactive media relations, including the briefing of officers and councillors, safeguarding the council's reputation by ensuring corporately aware responses
*To support the team on all media relations issues maintaining an awareness of key corporate issues
*To provide media management at key council events such as elections, council and other committee meetings and for emergency planning
What is required?
*Communications experience, proactive and reactive press office and social media experience in fast passed environment, as well as digital and printed comms experience not mainly proactive marketing focuses
*Experience within a public sector role - ideally with a council or a similar body
*A degree level qualification in a communications or PR related discipline, a communications diploma and/or a NCTJ qualification
*Relevant work experience deemed to have brought the post holder to a comparable academic level
*Experience of working in or dealing directly with the local/regional media
*Experience in developing integrated programmes across a range of communications disciplines, including social media and e-communications and producing internal/external publications and promotional material
*High level of IT skills, particularly the use of Microsoft Word, Outlook, PowerPoint, the internet and relevant software
