Job description: A Local Authority based in West Yorkshire is looking for an Area Planning Team Leader to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant planning qualification, extensive experience dealing with Area Planning and Team Management and ideally a strong background in Local Authority projects.

The main purpose of the role is to act as Team Leader for an Area Planning Team within this dynamic Development Management section which is striving to make changes all the time but is committed to the economic growth of the district.

The main responsibilities associated with the role are as follows;

Provide effective leadership, management and direction of the Area Planning Team and ensure performance targets are met.
Support other senior managers within Development Management to deliver an effective, high quality, efficient and value for money service.
Maintain effective relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure the protection and enhancement of the heritage asset and good practice in conservation and design.
Forward thinking, proactive and customer led handling of advice, enquiries and public consultation.
Maintain the reputation of the service in delivering sustainable development within Kirklees.
Co-ordinate the Authority's response to a range of development pre-application enquiries in the area.
Process and monitor all applications, enquiries and Section 106 agreements relating to a range of development proposals within the Area Team.
Delivery of projects and programmes to agreed specifications, timescales and budget
Act as lead officer for the Sub Planning Committee.
Create close and productive working relationships with elected Members; communities, the development industry, consultees and colleagues across the Council.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

Have a relevant professional qualification - MRTPI is desirable.
Have extensive experience in development management particularly in connection range of development proposals.
Have extensive knowledge and experience of supervising and managing Planning teams.
Have in depth and extensive knowledge in the latest national planning policy; guidance and procedures.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £40 p/hr Umbrella ltd (approx. £910 NET p/week after deductions) for the duration of the role.
