Job description: A Local Authority based in North London is looking for a Principle Planning & Development Officer to join their team (Outside IR35). This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant qualification in Town Planning (Preferable MRTPI), evidence of CPD and extensive experience in a principle role dealing with Local Authority projects.

The main purpose of the role is to provide an excellent, effective and efficient Development Management Service. Key functions are managing and completing relevant tasks and caseloads associated with Major Planning Applications (principally comprising applications relating to the Council's New Build Housing Programme), including making recommendations and handling any appeals and representing the Council at Informal Hearings and Public Inquiries and any associated Court proceedings.

The main accountabilities associated with the role include but are not limited to;

Coordinate and process a varied caseload customer interactions and major planning applications in particular of strategic size (by definition) and of the most complex and high profile / wide reaching nature.
Coordination includes providing specialist observations and pre-application advice and inter-team and service working, in particular to focus on applications brought forward by the Council's New Build Housing Programme.
Processing includes validation, consultation and site visits and stakeholder engagement to enable evaluation and negotiation of applications and assignments in order to secure appropriate recommendations and the highest quality outcomes.
Liaise with, as part of the major application process and formal pre-application procedure, a wide range of internal and external partners, stakeholders and interested parties.
Coordinate and evaluate responses and resolve any conflicting issues. Look for opportunities for additional opportunities in support of the New Build Programme where in line with relevant other planning considerations.
To develop and maintain an up to date knowledge of relevant laws, regulations, policies, working practices and procedures.
To plan, programme and prioritise your own workload to consistently meet and exceed deadlines, targets and timetables, of the highest quality and accuracy, without any need for close supervision.
As well as trouble shoot issues in a manner that most effectively aids the New Building Housing Programme to be delivered in the most effective and efficient manner

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/attributes;

A relevant qualification in Town Planning and eligibility for membership of the Royal Town Planning Institute (RTPI).
Extensive knowledge and understanding of development management systems and processes and the ability to work to specified procedures.
Experience of managing budgets and generating income.

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £24 - £27.50 p/hour Ltd (this role falls outside of IR35) dependant on skills, qualifications and experience for the duration of the role.
