Job description: I am currently recruiting for a print technician in Hackney.

This role is initially for one month due to a spike in workload and does fall inside IR35.

JOB PURPOSE:


To provide a quality all round finishing and digital/litho printing service on behalf of
the Print Unit contributing to the high quality standards of print. To act as a
consultant and advisor to service users. The post holder will be responsible for
finishing work and digital/litho printing functions on rotation and as required to the
service which involves operating in a print room environment with a variety of
background noises.

KEY ACCOUNTABILITIES
* To effectively and safely operate all Council's print and reprographic
equipment, using modern print technology, including undertaking training on
new developments
* To be responsible for maintaining the high quality standard of work produced
within the Unit, being proficient in Microsoft Office packages such as Word,
Excel and Powerpoint
* To meet productivity targets, managing a varied workload and reacting to
frequently conflicting priorities efficiently and professionally and making
judgement decisions where necessary
* To ensure work is produced to deadline so as to avoid financial penalties
incurred on legally bound delivery of documentation (e.g. cabinet agendas)
JOB DESCRIPTION
* To be responsible for the preparation of all materials, ensuring all documents
are checked to ensure they are complete and in order for printing and to be
aware of the importance of accuracy prior to despatch
* To take responsibility for the safekeeping of large printing equipment carrying
out emergency maintenance when requested
* To efficiently operate all print ancillary equipment
* To assist in print finishing work including comb and wiro binding, creasing,
cutting, drilling, folding, numbering, padding, perforating, packing, ancillary
equipment and off loading paper. This might involve periods of substantial
physical effort in cutting paper and lifting
* To assist in stock taking duties and ensure stock positions will meet demand
for print
* To maintain confidentiality in an environment where sensitive information and
documents central to the Council's image, key deliverables and objectives are
often handled
* To ensure all health and safety requirements are carried out whilst being
mindful of the surrounding environment which includes noisy and potentially
dangerous machinery and chemicals
* To receive data files direct from customers and provide advice direct to
customers regarding submission of data files, advising on best techniques and
cost effective solutions. To be responsible for liaison with a wide range of
internal and external clients over their print requests, communicating options
and providing informed and expert advice
* To be responsible for decisions on appropriate design, style and substance for
print requests


SKILLS
* Good communication and interpersonal skills
* Ability to effectively operate finishing equipment
* Ability to effectively operate Docutech machines or similar
* Ability to work to tight deadlines
* Ability to work on own initiative and as an effective team player
* Ability to prioritise and manage own workload
* Ability to operate effectively in an environment of constant change
* Ability to effectively meet productivity targets

KNOWLEDGE
* Sound understanding of the print production process
* Understanding of issues within a production environment
* Demonstrate an understanding of and commitment to equal opportunities
* An understanding of the business unit, its objectives, culture and a willingness
to work constructively with others to achieve this

EXPERIENCE
* Experience of effectively using copying networkable systems
* Experience of effectively using ancillary print room equipment
* Experience of working in an in-plant printing environment
