Job description: Private Sector Housing Standards Officer, Loughborough
A local authority in Loughborough are recruiting for a Private Sector Housing Standards Officer to work in their Private Sector Housing Team on a range of duties, with a particular focus on undertaking HMO Licensing, inspecting properties for HHSRS compliance and carrying out appropriate enforcement.

The Role
In this role, you will be focussing on a range of duties, including:
-Investigate housing standard complaints, carry out housing inspections and investigations (including houses in multiple occupation). Undertake any necessary enforcement action, in accordance with the service's objectives and procedures, including the production of reports, correspondence, work schedules and statutory notices as required.
-Carry out void inspections and arrange for repairs and appropriate safety checks to PSL properties where appropriate, in accordance with the lease, management, and legislative requirements.
-Assist in the management of empty homes in the Borough with the objective of bringing homes back into use where possible, in accordance with the Council's Empty Homes Strategy and appropriate legislative or grant aided interventions. Undertake inspections for Accommodation Certificates and issue appropriate correspondence.
-Carry out inspections of potential Tenant Finder properties, ensuring that they are suitable for occupation in line with the service's objectives and procedures.
-Investigate drainage defect complaints where required, including defects resulting in recurring pest control issues. Undertake any necessary enforcement action, in accordance with the service's objectives and procedures, including the production of reports, correspondence, work schedules and statutory notices as required.
-Promote domestic energy efficiency in the private sector and liaise with suppliers and potential partners to deliver energy efficiency measures to those eligible.
-Undertake inspections of licensed caravan sites and ensure compliance with site licence conditions.
-Maintain the team's technical equipment and supplies.

The Candidate
To be successful within this role, you will require the following skills and experience:
-NVQ Level 3 or equivalent in Building Studies/ Construction or Environmental Health, OR a certificate of competency under HHSRS
-Demonstrable experience in carrying out detailed inspections of domestic property.
-Experience of drawing up schedules of work
-Computer literacy including experience in the use of Microsoft Office.
-Knowledge of legislation relating to private sector housing and houses in multiple occupation.
-Experience in the use of the Civica Data Management System
-Must be able to carry out site visits/inspections and use ladders and scaffolding.
-Must hold a current full UK driving licence and have access to a suitably insured vehicle available for work purposes

The Contract
This is an initial 2 month contract, covering a period of sickness. The role is full time, working 37 hours per week.
