Job description: Revenue Advisor, Stoke-on-Trent
A local authority in Stoke are recruiting for two Revenues Advisors to ensure the collection & recovery of Council Tax/ Non domestic rates / Sundry Debts in the most efficient and effective manner possible.

The Role
The focus of the role is to assist in the development and improvement of the service delivered - this will include the following duties:
*To assist in the effective and proper maintenance of Council Tax / NNDR / Sundry Debt accounts having regard to liability, exemptions, discounts, payment methods and valuations
*Conduct interviews either by telephone or in person at any location.
*Answer telephone enquiries and reply to correspondence as and when appropriate.
*Deal with Valuation Office matters including the setting up of new properties and sending reports to the Valuation Office including the preparation of inspection records for new and altered properties
*Deal with the recovery of unpaid council tax / NNDR / Sundry Debt, including the tracing of absconders, up to the issue of a Liability order and recommend alternative recovery action for individual debtors when appropriate.
*Monitor overdue arrangements and liaise with the Benefits Agency, external companies and employers as necessary
*Serve and administer Attachment to Earnings Orders and Benefit Orders
*Monitor and reconcile cases issued to bailiffs
*Liaise with other sections within the Council and outside organisations as required such as CAB, bailiffs, accountants and solicitor

The Candidate
To be considered for this role, you will require the following skills and experience:
*Demonstrate the ability to develop a sound knowledge of Local Authority (or similar) billing, recovery and invoicing systems and procedures.
*Experience of billing, recovery and enforcement of debt and housing benefit.
*Have very good standard of oral and written communication skills; the ability to articulate complex issues in customer friendly way.
*Ability and confidence to solve problems using individual expertise
*Have the ability to deal with people from a cross section of the community in a positive but sympathetic manner
*Having a confident and assertive disposition whilst maintaining a friendly and approachable manner
*An ability to fulfil all spoken aspects of the role with confidence through the medium of English
*One vacancies will include conducting visits - this will require Driving License and use of own vehicle.

The Contract
This is an initial 6 week contract with a good chance of being extended. Working hours are Monday to Friday 8:45 - 17:00.
There are two vacancies, one of which will include conducting visits as well as working in the office. Driving Licence required and must use own car. Mileage will be paid for fuel used for the visits.
