Senior Desktop Engineer

Job description: My Client, a local authority in Gloucestershire, is currently looking for a Senior Desktop Engineer to work on an initial 6 month contract basis.

The focus of this role is to assist with the upgrade of the current server estate. This will include deployment of client software using RDS or SCCM as appropriate and the retiring of the current Citrix farm. A secondary responsibility will be to assist the Service Desk Operations team in dealing with BAU desktop support calls and other tasks.

This role provides proactive monitoring, 2nd/3rd level incident support and problem management to ensure that End User devices and systems are available in line with, and where possible, surpassing Service Level Agreements. It also forms a part of the 'go-to' technical expert tier within the ICT division and as keen technologists will naturally keep themselves up-to-date with the latest technical developments and thoughts.


MAIN DUTIES

* Covering technologies such as Windows desktop, SCCM, RDS,

* Ensure devices and desktop applications are compatible with all the relevant Council policies, procedures and standards and with relevant legislation, including the Data Protection Act.

* Maintain a high-level of awareness of current developments in areas of IT that may be of value to the Authority.

* Ensure that the Council's approach to equal opportunities is developed in practice within the Division.

* Contribute to the development and promotion of best practice in information planning and project management.


ESSENTIAL CRITERIA:

* You will have in depth knowledge and experience in most of the following areas: Windows 7 to 10, Active Directory, System Centre Configuration Manager, Group Policy, RDS, Citrix and ITIL

* Experience of working within small projects teams, agreeing and completing work as scheduled.

* Demonstrable problem solving skills in a highly complex IT environment

* You will have demonstrable experience at working within an environment where intrusive monitoring, Alert and Event Management processes are key

* You will have demonstrable experience at working within an environment where strict Planned Preventative Maintenance and Change Management procedures must be adhered to

* Experience and ability to plan scheduled maintenance activities and ensure risks are identified and mitigated


DESIRABLE CRITERIA:

* Knowledge and experience in the following areas: Windows Server 2003 and above, HyperV, deployment of applications to a large user base, device imaging, Windows 10 mobile, Office365, Azure, Bitlocker, knowledge of Local Government environment.
