Senior Engineer

Job description: My client based in South Wales has a new position available for a Senior Engineer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary position and the successful candidate will hold a full UK driving licence and will hold a relevant professional qualification.

The main Purpose of this role is to assist in providing and apply engineering skills and knowledge to work undertaken in the Civil Design Section of the Engineering Projects Group. Assist in the management of the Design Section with ongoing responsibility for:-

Technical guidance, progress and task completion.
Staff development and training.
Budget and finance control.
Efficient and effective use of available resources.


Assist in the provision of design fee bids and manage project brief requests for professional services from various clients and stakeholders within the Client.

Undertake the control, review and monitor project cost, quality and progress against allocated resources, agreed budgets and quality standards.

Undertake and implement maintenance and restoration programmes

Assist in developing and training of individuals and linking training activities and programmes into service delivery requirements.

Assist in the supervision of design, contract preparation and site supervision of highway improvements and non-routine maintenance schemes.

Prepare bids, make presentations for work and liaise in response to briefs from the Highways Operation Group Manager and other clients as appropriate. Assist in the preparation of briefs for other clients as appropriate.

Review and monitor project expenditure and budgets from inception to final account.

Assist in the supervision of design, contract preparation and site supervision of traffic calming, traffic management, land drainage, land reclamation and ground investigation schemes and to provide other miscellaneous engineering design services.

Undertake calculations under the Noise Insulation Regulations and liaise on claims under the Land Compensation Act.

Undertake environmental assessments in connection with highway and other proposals.

Review and respond to safety audits on highway schemes.

Liaise with and use expertise from joint engineering service providers as appropriate.

Assemble information, prepare materials and liaise with others in connection with statutory highway orders.

Represent the Division at public inquiries as required.

Assemble information and liaise on land purchase and land compensation matters.

Undertake public consultation exercises on highway and other engineering proposals.

Assist in the management of the tendering process, including tender checking, evaluation of tenders and making recommendations.

Liaise with the Principal Engineer (Operations) and the Police and other bodies regarding temporary traffic management arrangements for projects.

Undertake the measurement of materials and finished works, check submitted accounts and recommend for payment.

Investigate and evaluate contractors' claims. Assist, as required, in discussions and negotiation.

Undertake investigation and design of contaminated land remediation.

Promote via design the Division's environmental sustainability objectives.

Assist in the management, maintenance, restoration and budget control of the Client

Assist in the development of Health and Safety procedures and undertake responsibility under the Construction Design and Management Regulations 2015.

Provide a specialist land surveying service to the Division and the council in general.
