Senior Planning Consultant – National Planning Consultancy (Remote / UK-Wide)
£55,000 - £65,000 DOE + Bonus Structure
Full-Time
Permanent Contract

We are working with a nationally recognised planning consultancy to recruit a dynamic and commercially minded Senior Planning Consultant. This is a key position supporting the delivery of high-quality planning services across a broad spectrum of sectors, including residential, commercial, education, healthcare, and employment.
This is a client-facing role that will see you managing your own caseload and contributing directly to business growth. The ideal candidate will be an RTPI-accredited professional with extensive experience in either consultancy or local authority, capable of handling complex planning projects from inception to delivery.

Responsibilities
  • Manage your own portfolio of clients, offering high-level planning advice and fostering long-term relationships.
  • Prepare and submit complex planning applications, appeals, and land promotion strategies.
  • Conduct planning appraisals and site assessments to determine development potential.
  • Represent clients at committee meetings, hearings, and public examinations.
  • Develop planning strategies aligned with local and national policy to maximise approval prospects.
  • Draft high-quality planning reports, recommendations, and supporting documentation.
  • Liaise with stakeholders, including clients, local authorities, legal professionals, and community groups.
  • Attend regular site visits, client meetings, and public forums.
  • Actively contribute to business development through networking, identifying opportunities, and preparing fee proposals.
Requirements
  • Degree in Town Planning or a related field; full RTPI membership is essential.
  • Extensive post-qualification experience within planning consultancy or local government.
  • Proven success in managing major planning projects and delivering for clients.
  • In-depth knowledge of planning legislation, appeals, and policy.
  • Strong commercial acumen with a history of generating fee income.
  • Excellent communication, negotiation, and stakeholder management skills.
  • Experience mentoring junior staff and supporting team development.
  • A demonstrable track record of business development or an existing client base is highly desirable.
