Job description: We are currently recruiting on behalf of Essex County Council for Permanent Social Workers to join the Chelmsford SGO team.

The Role

The role is primarily providing assessment and support to both adults and children. This will include court work, group work, parenting support, life story work and assistance with contact, amongst other things.

Key Accountabilities
*To ensure both the safety and best interests of the children are paramount and that child protection procedures are followed, in accordance with the statutory requirements of relevant legislation
*To be involved in the assessment of needs, planning and intervention for children and adults affected by SGOs
*To offer support and advice to children and adults affected by SGOs in accordance with the identified needs and the team remit
*To undertake direct work with children including life story work and work around contact
*To assess the risks for children living with special guardians and identify appropriate actions to address any risks
*To complete reports as directed by Court
*To organise and facilitate support groups
*To provide information and support to birth parents
*To participate in disruption meetings when required, supporting the special guardians and children as appropriate
*To provide contact mediation service and work towards helping the special guardians to improve their skills in managing contact
*To work with complex family dynamics
*To support and advise other child care staff in this work as appropriate
*To record information in line with the Department's case recording policy

The role requires you to be mobile throughout a wide operational area including travelling around the county of Essex and beyond, transporting service users and their belongings and to be able to do so in an emergency. Driving licence and car or ability to meet the mobility requirements of the role through other means is essential.

For this position you must also have:

*a degree or masters in Social Work (or any other recognised equivalent qualification)
*1+ years' experience in Children and Families Social Work.
*HCPC registration
*Have access to a car.
