Job description: an exciting and rewarding opportunity has become available for a Specialist Practitioner to work with Children and Young People (CYP) with Vision Impairment and / or Hearing Impairment in the North Yorkshire area.

This position is:

** Full time - 37 hours per week
** Initial 3 month contract

The post holder will:
*Deliver effective support and intervention for CYP with VI / HI needs, 0-25 years, in a variety of contexts, including home and school.
*Under the guidance of the VI and HI Specialist Teacher you will play a role in:
- Planning and delivering effective support for CYP with sensory needs
- Developing the skills of those supporting CYP with sensory needs.

You will have:

*experience of working with families and young children with VI/HI needs
*experience of working within educational settings
*knowledge of technology and resources relevant to children with VI and/or HI
*excellent verbal & written skills
*excellent interpersonal & communication skills
*excellent personal and time management skills
*an ability to work collaboratively with others
*excellent recording and report writing skills
*an awareness of technology used to support vision impairment and/or hearing impairme
*knowledge of Early Years/Pre-School Initiatives (desirable)
*knowledge of Statutory Assessment procedures/Code of Practice (desirable)
*knowledge of mainstream school curriculum (desirable)
*experience of up to date inclusive practice in the education of VI / HI children and young people
*knowledge of impact of VI and or HI on children and families
*a flexible approach and positive attitude
*the confidence to work alone as well as part of a team

It would be beneficial to have experience of:

*delivering training to staff
*delivering Habilitation programmes (VI)
*braille (teaching to grade 1 or 2) (VI)
*BSL at Level 2 (HI)
*Delivering language programmes (HI)

The ideal candidate must have use of their own car to travel across County. The role is County wide.
