Job description: A Local Authority based in Staffordshire is looking for a Waste Management Officer to join their team. This is a full time, temporary ongoing agency role and the successful candidate must have a full relevant qualification, experience dealing with Waste Management/Sustainability schemes and ideally a strong background in Local Authority projects.

The client is seeking a passionate and enthusiastic Sustainability professional to join their multidisciplinary Waste Management and Sustainability Team. The ideal candidate will have a strong demonstrable knowledge base and skill set in Climate Change and Sustainability, with Waste Management knowledge and experience being advantageous. We are seeking an individual to support and assist in the development and delivery of a range of Climate Change, Sustainability and Waste Management initiatives which will contribute towards the Council's environmental aspirations.

The individual we are seeking should have competent IT skills, and be able to manipulate and report on a variety of complex statistical data and information; be a confident communicator able to engage with key stakeholders and deal with enquiries and complaints effectively; be creative and able to contribute, research and evaluate ideas, and deliver schemes and publicity materials for stakeholders and the public which contribute towards our corporate objectives; be able to take the lead on delivering the Councils Climate Change Adaptation programme and support colleagues in delivering and monitoring our Climate Change Strategy and Action Plan; and have specialist Sustainability and Climate Change knowledge which they can draw on to advise a range of internal and external services and stakeholders on all aspects of Climate Change and Sustainability.

Main responsibilities;

To implement and deliver key local / national Waste Management and Sustainability schemes against agreed performance indicators
To be responsible for key stakeholder engagement and assist in the delivery of - The Corporate Climate Change Strategy, Harmonizing and integrating Waste Management / Sustainability services, Community energy audits and community resilience projects for local communities
To prepare publicity material and exhibitions and to actively assist other organisations in waste minimisation, re-use, recycling activities, carbon reduction and energy efficiency.
To investigate, evaluate and deliver environmentally sustainable and economically viable schemes to reduce carbon emissions, deliver mitigation measures and increase reuse and recycling in-conjunction with a number of service delivery partners.

The successful candidate will be able to demonstrate the following competencies/experience;

Ability to motivate, persuade, influence and develop positive working relationships with colleagues, partners, contractors
Educated to Degree level or other relevant qualification in Waste Management or the Environment or relevant experience.
High level knowledge, understanding and ability to interpret/implement current waste management and climate change legislation/policy
Relevant practical knowledge of waste collection/treatment systems, renewable energy technologies, Adaptation plans and carbon management / energy efficiency measures
Sound understanding and relevant practical experience of the climate change / sustainability industry and/or waste management industry

The client is looking to move quickly with appointing to this position and as such, are offering £16 p/hr Umbrella ltd (approx. £430 NET p/week after deductions) for the duration of the role.
