Web Integration Systems Engineer

Job description: My client, a Local Council in South East London, is currently looking for a Web Integration Systems Engineer to join the company on a 3 month initial contract basis with extension a possibility - Pay rates aren't fixed, and are entirely negotiable for this role.


You will be expected:

1. To engineer end-to-end integration of the public-facing website with a variety of business systems to deliver web access to Council services.

2. To develop website solutions and user-interface design which meet key accessibility and usability criteria for government services, and are responsive in design for use on all platforms including mobile.

3. To collaborate on the translation of existing business processes into detailed new integration specifications and software designs using innovative thinking.

4. To advise and support Council departments on more efficient ways of working to deliver effective digital services, making recommendations for change, and creating maintenance plans to deal with the implications for the service of technology change.

5. To work in a creative and innovative way, using expertise to develop fresh solutions for delivering Council services in new ways and implementing new service provision.

6. To troubleshoot and resolve complex systems problems and feed back progress to project or service leads.

7. To be responsible for the design, development, testing, deployment, documentation, release, monitoring and maintenance of new integrations, ensuring technical projects are delivered to tight time and budget constraints.

8. To create re-usable code with good practice, new technology and future maintenance in mind, continually revising, standardising and maintaining corporate integration protocols.

9. To play a key team role with digital media editors, developers and business analysts to implement solutions using forward-compatible open technologies and standards.

10. To directly supervise one or more employees carrying out tasks on your live projects and be responsible for the safekeeping of technical resources and hardware.

11. To develop good working relationships with business systems administrators and their suppliers to inform your design of well made and sustainable digital services.

12. To design User Acceptance Testing criteria for your projects, carry out UAT sessions and translate outcomes into solutions.

13. To create re-usable software documentation, operations manuals and management information for knowledge transfer and used as reference.

14. To deliver projects and systems within Agile (Scrum) and Prince 2 project management methods and contribute at all stages of each project.


Requirements

1. Degree and/or recognised specialist qualification in web related infrastructure. (E)

2. Significant experience in liaising directly with systems administrators, business delivery teams and external software suppliers to create new digital services in a corporate environment. (E)

3. Advance knowledge and skills in server engineering using Linux, Apache, MySQL and PHP plus Windows, IIS, and Sequel Server. (E)

4. Web browser engineering skills in HTML, CSS and JavaScript. (E)

5. Proven software testing and monitoring skills with extensive experience in digital projects. (E)

6. Implementing application programming interfaces using key technologies, protocols and standards such as HTTP(s) APIs, REST and RESTful interfaces. (E)

7. Computer networking including diagnostics, Windows, Unix, FTP, HTTP(s), DNS, IP, Firewalls, LAN, WAN
