Job description: A local authority in Devon is recruiting for a Young People's Homelessness Worker to join their service in Torbay on an initial six-month contract, to contribute towards preventing young people experiencing homelessness and helping young people access suitable accommodation.

The Role
This Young People's Homelessness Worker role will involve working closely with young people and their families when homelessness is identified as a risk. The worker will also work with a number of key agencies to ensure a joined up approach is taken to meeting young people's housing needs.
This will include the following tasks and responsibilities:
*Develop internal mechanisms that clearly identify young people at risk of homelessness and ensure appropriate interventions are put in place at the earliest opportunity to prevent homelessness or access accommodation
*Undertake as directed specialist housing casework with young people and their families, including: Mediation within families as risk of breakdown; Advocacy at homelessness and housing interviews; Challenging inappropriate local housing authority decisions; Accessing accommodation services; Provision of housing advice and support
*Work in accordance with the local housing or homelessness strategies and other relevant partner strategies and are involved in any review of these where it is relevant to housing and homelessness for young people.
*Record, monitor and collate data on the housing needs of young people accessing the service and ensure this is consistently shared and compared with local housing data
*Establish links with local housing providers and develop working protocols/agreements with all relevant local agencies to:
*Highlight the importance of and facilitate preventative homeless work to support young people within the family home, whenever appropriate to do so
*Raise the profile of the accommodation needs of young people and in particular those with complex needs and care leavers in the local housing arena.
*Ensure that good quality housing advice is given to young people and families to prevent homelessness and to enable them to resolve their own accommodation issues with support.
*In seeking to prevent homelessness, liaise with families, landlords, solicitors, Housing Services, voluntary sector and other relevant agencies, organisations and individuals.

The Candidate
It is essential that any applicant for this Young People's Homelessness Worker role, has a good knowledge of homelessness issues and housing issues along with an awareness of child protection procedures and the issues facing young people with complex needs. Therefore, previous experience of working with young people and experience of housing work is also considered an essential requirement of applicants. Applicants must be educated to A level standard or equivalent.
As this Young People's Homelessness Worker role is working with vulnerable service users, you will also require an enhanced DBS check, ideally on the update service.

The Contract
This Young People's Homelessness Worker vacancy is on an initial 6-month contract, which has a strong chance of being extended. The role is full time, working 9-5 Monday to Friday, though some flexibility will be required.
