Job Title: 1:1 Teaching Assistant

About the Role We are seeking a compassionate and dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a Key Stage 2 pupil who is non-verbal. This rewarding role involves providing tailored, individual support to help the child access learning, develop communication skills, and thrive within the classroom environment.

You will work closely with the class teacher and SENCO to implement personalised strategies, ensuring the pupil feels supported, safe, and included at all times.

Key Responsibilities
  • Provide 1:1 support for a KS2 pupil with additional needs
  • Support communication using appropriate methods (e.g. visual aids, PECS, Makaton where applicable)
  • Assist the pupil in accessing the curriculum and classroom activities
  • Help manage behaviour in a calm and positive manner
  • Work collaboratively with teaching staff and SEN professionals
  • Monitor progress and provide feedback to the teacher
  • Support the pupil’s social and emotional development
  • Ensure a safe and inclusive learning environment
Person Specification Essential:
  • Experience working with children or young people, ideally in a school setting
  • Understanding of supporting pupils with additional needs (e.g. autism, communication difficulties)
  • Strong communication and interpersonal skills
  • Patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
  • Ability to build positive relationships and trust
Desirable:
  • Level 2 or Level 3 Teaching Assistant qualification
  • Experience supporting non-verbal pupils
  • Knowledge of PECS, Makaton, or alternative communication methods
  • Experience within a SEN setting
