Call Handler/ Responder
Salary: £12.22 (PAYE) - £15.66 per hour (Umbrella)
Location: Derby (and surrounding areas)
Client: Derby City Council – Carelink Service
Contract Type: Temporary (3 months)
Hours: Full time (37 hours P/W) – Monday – Friday 9:00 – 17:30
Driving: Full UK Licence required

About the Role

As a Mobile Responder / Call Handler, you will provide a vital 24/7 emergency response service to vulnerable adults in the community, enabling them to remain safe and independent in their own homes. The role is varied, combining call handling, technical support, and hands-on assistance, and requires flexibility, professionalism, and compassion when supporting individuals in urgent or non-urgent situations.

Key Responsibilities

  • Respond to emergency and non-emergency calls from service users.
  • Safely lift uninjured fallers using specialist equipment (full training provided).
  • Install, programme, and maintain telecare equipment.
  • Conduct home visits to carry out health observations and basic assessments.
  • Provide professional call handling and triage of alarm activations.
  • Support care homes and healthcare professionals with lifting assistance.
  • Use IT systems to update client records, complete reports, and liaise with other services.
Experience & Knowledge
  • Previous experience in a call centre, health, or social care setting.
  • Knowledge of safeguarding, emergency response, and working with vulnerable adults.
  • Understanding of telecare systems and/or assistive technology (desirable).
  • Awareness of confidentiality, GDPR, and equality principles.
Skills & Competencies
  • Excellent communication, interpersonal, and IT skills.
  • Ability to remain calm, empathetic, and professional under pressure.
  • Strong organisational and problem-solving skills.
  • Flexible, adaptable, and able to work independently or as part of a team.
Additional Requirements
  • A valid UK driving licence and access to a roadworthy vehicle (or willingness to drive council vehicles).
  • Flexibility to work a 24/7 shift pattern including nights, weekends, and bank holidays.
  • Commitment to training, supervision, and professional development.
  • Enhanced DBS clearance required.
