Job Opportunity: Level 6 Nursery Practitioner (Contract) – Accrington

We are seeking a dedicated Level 6 Nursery Practitioner to join a respected nursery rated Outstanding by Ofsted. This is a fantastic contract opportunity that will allow you to lead, inspire, and shape the future of young children aged 0–5.

About the Role

The Level 6 Nursery Practitioner will take the lead on planning, pedagogy, and delivering high-quality early years education. You will be instrumental in implementing the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) curriculum, mentoring less experienced staff, and ensuring that every child's needs are met with creativity and professionalism. This 2-week contract available from September offers an excellent platform for an early years expert eager to showcase their leadership skills.

Candidate Responsibilities

As a Level 6 Nursery Practitioner, your main duties will include:

  • Planning and delivering engaging, EYFS-aligned activities suited to each child's development stage
  • Acting as a key person, building strong relationships with children and their families
  • Observing, assessing, and recording children's progress along with planning for next steps
  • Supporting, mentoring, and supervising Level 2 and Level 3 practitioners within the setting
  • Upholding safeguarding, health and safety standards, and promoting inclusive practice
  • Collaborating with parents, carers, and external professionals such as SENCOs and health visitors
  • Championing health, safety, and safeguarding protocols to ensure a secure environment for children and staff

Candidate Requirements

We are seeking candidates who hold:

  • A Level 6 qualification in Early Years (e.g., BA Hons Early Childhood Studies, EYTS, or EYPS)
  • Or an early years degree recognized by the DfE as Fully Qualified Teacher Status (QTS) with relevant experience
  • Or a Level 5 qualification working towards Level 6 (considered for the right candidate)

Essential skills include:

  • Strong knowledge of the EYFS framework and safeguarding procedures
  • Experience leading a room, key group, or curriculum area
  • Confidence in mentoring or supervising junior staff
  • Excellent communication skills and a child-centred approach
  • Paediatric First Aid (training available if needed)
  • An enhanced DBS check (or willingness to obtain one)
