Litigation Lawyer

Service Care Legal are seeking an experienced Litigation Lawyer to join a busy local authority legal team, handling a varied caseload across criminal and civil matters.
 
ROLE:                  Locum Litigation Lawyer
LOCATION:          Hertfordshire
RATE:                   £55ph umbrella / £48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £43,24ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
CONTRACT:        36 hours per week, initially 3 months with scope of extension
 
Please note this role would require office attendance 1 day per week.
 
Key Responsibilities
 

• Manage a mixed litigation caseload including criminal prosecutions, civil disputes, and housing matters
• Conduct advocacy in Magistrates’ and County Courts
• Advise on and progress criminal prosecutions (e.g. community protection, planning, fraud)
• Handle civil litigation including debt recovery, injunctions, possession, and judicial review
• Provide legal support on housing and homelessness cases
• Advise on licensing matters and attend committee hearings
• Draft legal documents, prepare evidence, and manage cases end-to-end
• Liaise with clients, courts, and external counsel as required

 
Person Specification
 

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or CILEX with local authority experience
• Strong background in litigation (criminal and/or civil)
• Confident advocate with court experience
• Ability to manage a diverse caseload independently
• Excellent communication and stakeholder management skills
