Principal Litigation Lawyer

Service Care Legal are working with a Local Authority in Sussex seeking an experienced Principal Litigation Solicitor to join their Legal Services team on an interim basis. Please find below further details about the role/
 
ROLE:                  Principal Litigation Lawyer
LOCATION:         Sussex / remote
RATE:                   £60ph LTD / £52.79ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £47.11ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
CONTRACT:        37 hours per week, 6 months with possibility of extension
 
Please note that this role requires office attendance 1 day per week.
 
Role Overview – Key Responsibilities
 

• Provide legal advice, representation and advocacy across the Council on licensing, environmental health, housing, property litigation, prosecutions, judicial review, regulatory and general litigation matters
• Manage a complex and varied litigation caseload with minimal supervision, representing the Council at courts, tribunals, inquiries, committees and public meetings
• Act as a trusted adviser to Members and senior officers, including attendance at statutory and committee meetings on behalf of the Monitoring Officer
• Support the operational management of the Legal Services team, including mentoring, coaching and developing staff
• Contribute to service planning, policy development and the delivery of a high-quality, cost-effective legal service

 
Person Specification
 

• Qualified Solicitor, Barrister or Chartered Legal Executive (or equivalent)
• Strong experience of complex litigation within a local government context, including civil and criminal matters
• In-depth knowledge of local authority legislation, court and committee procedures, and judicial review
• Confident advocate with experience representing or advising at courts, tribunals, inquiries and committees
