Senior Contracts Lawyer

Service Care Legal are working with a large and well-established local authority in South East London is seeking an experienced Senior Contracts Lawyer to support its legal services team on a high-profile and busy portfolio of work. This is an excellent opportunity for a qualified solicitor with strong public sector experience to play a key role in a major Council work area, handling complex contractual matters and deputising for the Principal Lawyer as required.
 
ROLE:                  Senior Contracts Lawyer
CONTRACT:        3 months with possibility of extension, 36 hours per week
LOCATION:         South East London
RATE:                   £55ph LTD / £48.46ph PAYE inc. holiday pay / £43.24ph PAYE exc. holiday pay
 
Please 2 days per week in the office.
 
Key Responsibilities

• Managing and advising on complex contract work arising across the Council
• Deputising for the Principal Lawyer where appropriate
• Providing legal advice and assistance with drafting and negotiating legal documentation
• Supporting joint commissioning initiatives, including negotiations with Health Authorities and other local authorities
• Advising on and drafting contracts and protocols relating to a wide range of public-private partnership (PPP) arrangements
• Providing specialist advice on complex procurement and tender documentation
• Working closely with internal stakeholders, partners and preferred bidders to deliver pragmatic legal solutions

Requirements
 

• Qualified Solicitor (England & Wales)
• Significant public sector experience, ideally within a local authority or similar environment
• Strong background in contracts, procurement and commercial law
• Experience of PPPs and joint commissioning arrangements
• Ability to work independently on complex matters and support senior colleagues
