Structural Engineer

Structural Engineer – Council in Central London 
£216.43 PAYE / £297.44 Umbrella (Inside IR35)
36 hours per week / 5 days per week 
Temporary Contract 

A Local Authoritry based in Central London is currently seeking an experienced Chartered Structural Engineer to support its Building Control and Dangerous Structures functions during a peak in workload. This is a temporary assignment within the Growth, Planning and Housing directorate, working on a hybrid basis with occasional site inspections required.

The role plays a key part in ensuring the safety, compliance, and structural integrity of developments across the borough.

Responsibilities:

• Review and check structural designs submitted with planning and building regulations applications
• Provide timely responses to basement development consultations issued by Planning
• Carry out occasional site inspections as required
• Advise on, prepare reports for, and support actions relating to Dangerous Structures
• Act as a core member of the Dangerous Structures team
• Manage caseloads effectively, ensuring SLAs and response times are consistently met
• Support Building Control Surveyors with structural assessments

Requirements:

• Chartered Member of the Institution of Structural Engineers (IStructE) or equivalent recognised body
• Significant operational experience in structural engineering
• Strong time management, organisational, and record-keeping skills
• Proven ability to assess structural information promptly and accurately
• Confident working independently within a fast-paced local authority environment
