How long was January? I thought it was never going to end! My not drinking lasted a whole 10 days before accidently drinking the remains of a bottle of wine my wife used for cooking. (It was far too good for cooking with). Now we are in the shortest month of the year – literally and before we know it, it will be summer again, right?

Love is in the air, everywhere you look around. Love is in the air, every sight and every sound. By now, you are probably singing along to the famous tune but not quite knowing what all the lyrics are. I’ll save you the job of checking it out on YouTube – just click here.

Anyway, I am digressing, so in honour of the month of Love – I’m going to introduce you to some unlikely (yet interesting) love stories. So if you are feeling quite unloved right now – there is hope for you yet!

What springs to mind when you think of Berlin? The famous nightlife, the food, a place steeped in history – The Brandenburg Gate, The Reichstag Building and of course the Berlin Wall. Well this woman took her love of the wall to the next level when she married it back in 1979! She had 10 years of blissful marriage but in 1989 he was viciously attacked and hasn’t been himself since. Check out the full story here.

If you think marrying a wall is strange, what about an animal? There is an abundance of stories out there about people marrying everything from frogs to even horses! Well, we all know that a dog is a man’s best friend. However, for one woman her dog became her best wife! Amanda Rodgers married her dog in a ceremony in Croatia in front of 200 guests. If you ask me, I think she is barking mad.

This man went well beyond ‘till death do us part: devastated that his girlfriend was killed in a car accident, Chadil Deffy married his girlfriend of 10 years in a joint funeral/wedding ceremony. It seems true love never really does die. Here is the full story.

I could not write this piece without mentioning those who devote their lives to God – by joining in holy matrimony. Yes, that is right there are around 3,500 woman around the world married to God. One wife is enough to be honest; I couldn’t imagine having 3,500 to deal with! Have a read here why Carmen Briceno became a Consecrated Virgin.

Nowadays, it is all about the memes, GIFs and selfies. It wasn’t always like that though, Geoff and Pat Bunyan met back in 1945 as young teenagers but before their love could blossom he was posted away with the army. That didn’t detour the pair though as they sent over 600 letters to each other and fell head over heels in love with one another. Is somebody cutting onions in this office? I’m not crying, you are. Have a look at the lovely couple and lovely handwriting of the letters here.

Many people strive to have their very own fairy tale wedding, the dress, the ceremony, the cake and of course the food right? All is not lost, if you are unlucky in love you can still do all of that and get married to yourself! That is exactly what Laura Mesi did and is a part of a growing trend known as sologamy. It seems it is big business with a Japanese travel agency even offering bespoke packages.
