Our Commitment to Carbon Reduction and Net Zero
At Service Care Solutions (SCS), we recognise the urgent need for decisive action on climate change and are fully committed to playing our part in building a more sustainable future. As a responsible business, we understand that reducing our carbon footprint is not only essential for the environment but also integral to our long-term success and the well-being of our stakeholders.
Our Approach: Measured, Transparent, and Ambitious
SCS has adopted a robust, science-based approach to measuring, managing, and reducing our greenhouse gas (GHG) emissions. Our carbon reduction journey is guided by the UK Government’s Greenhouse Gas Protocol and the requirements of PPN 006, ensuring that our reporting is transparent, comprehensive, and independently verified.
We have set clear, ambitious targets:
-
Reduce Scope 1 and Scope 2 emissions by 75% by 2030 (from our 2022 baseline)
-
Achieve Net Zero emissions across Scopes 1, 2, and 3 by 2045
Our baseline year (2022) established a clear reference point for our emissions, and we have since expanded the scope of our reporting to include a broader range of activities and sources. This includes not only direct emissions from our operations (Scope 1) and purchased energy (Scope 2), but also a comprehensive assessment of our value chain emissions (Scope 3), such as business travel, employee commuting, homeworking, purchased goods and services, and cloud-based server use.
Progress and Performance
Since our baseline year, SCS has made significant strides in reducing emissions from our direct operations. While our total reported emissions have increased by 13% since 2022, this is primarily due to the expansion of our reporting boundaries to capture a fuller picture of our environmental impact. When comparing like-for-like categories, we have achieved a 37% reduction in emissions, demonstrating real progress in our core activities.
Key initiatives that have driven these reductions include:
-
Maintaining our ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management
-
Transitioning to a renewable electricity tariff
-
Implementing energy efficiency measures such as smart thermostats and motion detectors
-
Reinstatement and maintenance of our solar panels
-
Promoting active and low-carbon commuting options for staff
-
Adopting a digital-first, paperless approach to reduce waste
Looking Ahead
Our commitment to carbon reduction is ongoing. We are continually seeking new opportunities to further reduce our emissions, including enhanced data management, employee engagement on sustainability, and collaboration with suppliers to lower the carbon intensity of our goods and services. We are also investing in future initiatives such as heat mapping, energy efficiency training, and sustainable travel schemes.
Transparency and Accountability
All our emissions data is calculated in accordance with the UK Government’s GHG Conversion Factors and independently verified by 5D Net Zero. Our Carbon Reduction Plan is reviewed and signed off by our Board of Directors, ensuring accountability at the highest level.
At SCS, we believe that meaningful climate action is a shared responsibility. We are proud to share our progress and plans openly, and we invite our clients, partners, and community to join us on our journey to Net Zero.
