1:1 Teaching Assistant – SEMH Support (Social, Emotional & Mental Health) Location: Chorley, Lancashire
Contract: Full-time / Term-time only
Start Date: ASAP or January 2026

We’re working with a nurturing and inclusive school in Chorley looking for a dedicated 1:1 Teaching Assistant to support a pupil who requires additional emotional and behavioural support.

This is an excellent opportunity for someone patient, empathetic, and resilient who wants to help pupils build confidence, develop social skills, and achieve their full potential in school.

Role Responsibilities

• Provide 1:1 support for a pupil with SEMH needs, ensuring they can access learning in a safe and structured environment.
  
  
• Help the pupil regulate emotions, manage behaviour, and re-engage with classroom learning.
  
  
• Implement behaviour strategies and support plans under the guidance of the SENCO and class teacher.
  
  
• Deliver tailored interventions to develop social and emotional skills.
  
  
• Encourage positive relationships, resilience, and self-esteem.
  
  
• Liaise with teaching staff, parents, and external professionals to ensure consistent support.
  
  
• Record and monitor progress, feeding back to staff and SENCO regularly.
  
  

Requirements

• Previous experience supporting pupils with SEMH, ASC, ADHD, or behavioural needs (essential).
  
  
• Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to remain calm under pressure.
  
  
• A nurturing and consistent approach to behaviour management.
  
  
• Level 2 or 3 Teaching Assistant qualification (or equivalent experience).
  
  
• Enhanced DBS on the update service (or willingness to apply for one).
