We are looking for a dedicated and compassionate Access Screening Officer to join our local authority team on a 3 month temporary contract. This is an exciting opportunity to contribute meaningfully to adult social care services and ensure residents receive timely, appropriate support.
About the Role As an Access Screening Officer, you will be the first point of contact for adult social care enquiries, handling inbound calls via the 1001 ASC enquiry line and other communication channels. Your primary role will be to gather essential information, assess initial eligibility for services and funding, and identify risks to vulnerable residents — including older adults and individuals with complex needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Answer and manage the 1001 Adult Social Care enquiry telephone line with professionalism and empathy
- Conduct initial screening and gather vital information to assess customer needs and service eligibility
- Use sound judgement to make decisions on referrals for funding, benefits, or other support
- Assess risk to vulnerable individuals and escalate appropriately
- Allocate suitable resources to meet identified needs
- Communicate clearly across various platforms – phone, email, SMS, web, and face-to-face
- Accurately document all interactions and maintain client confidentiality
- Work collaboratively with team members and other departments to ensure efficient service delivery
- Strong communication and interpersonal skills
- Empathetic and customer-focused approach, particularly when supporting vulnerable or elderly individuals
- Good judgement and decision-making abilities
- Ability to manage complex information and work at pace
- Previous experience assessing eligibility for services or benefits (desirable)
- Confident in using IT systems and managing multichannel communications
