Service Care Solutions are currently recruiting for an Access to Records Officer to join a dedicated Children’s Social Care team within a Local Authority. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in information governance, GDPR compliance, and children’s services to take on a rewarding and responsible role.

Role Overview The Access to Records Officer will manage and oversee the process of providing individuals with access to their personal information held by Children’s Social Care, ensuring full compliance with data protection legislation and confidentiality standards. You will play a key part in delivering a high-quality service to individuals requesting their information and will lead on Subject Access Requests (SARs) within the department.

Key Responsibilities
  • Manage and coordinate the Access to Records process in line with current legislation and departmental procedures.

  • Conduct initial assessments of requests and establish work schedules within statutory timeframes.

  • Lead on Subject Access Requests (SARs) for Children’s Social Care cases.

  • Provide counselling and signposting to other services where appropriate.

  • Organise and carry out subject access meetings, ensuring sensitive and appropriate information sharing.

  • Maintain accurate and compliant records in accordance with data protection requirements.

  • Work closely with Social Work Teams, Legal Services, and the Information Rights Team to ensure effective information sharing.

  • Provide statistical reports and contribute to service development and training around data access and GDPR compliance.

  • Liaise with external agencies including courts, police, CAFCASS, and other professional bodies.

Requirements
  • A good level of education and strong understanding of information management principles.

  • Experience in advising and processing information in line with current legislation (e.g. GDPR).

  • Working knowledge of child protection principles and relevant legislation (‘Working Together’).

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with a strong focus on confidentiality and customer care.

  • Ability to carry out detailed file audits and manage competing deadlines effectively.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to handle sensitive situations and maintain confidentiality.

  • Confidence in using IT systems for data input, retrieval, and reporting.
