Location: Dorset or Devon & Cornwall Police Headquarters (Hybrid working - minimum 2 days in the office per week)
Contract: 6 months fixed term with potential extension
Pay Rate: £13.53ph PAYE / £17.80ph Umbrella (paid weekly via an umbrella company)
Start Date: ASAP (Subject to police vetting)

About the Role:

As an Accountancy Officer you will provide essential technical accounting support within the Alliance Finance Department. This includes control account reconciliations, treasury management, data analysis, and the preparation of financial and statistical information. The role ensures compliance with financial policies and regulations, maintaining the accuracy and integrity of the general ledger and supporting effective financial management across the organisation.

Key Responsibilities:

• Act as the first point of contact for Freedom of Information (FOI) requests, providing accurate financial and statistical data.
  
  
• Extract, analyse, and present complex financial data to support management decision-making.
  
  
• Complete statutory and Home Office financial returns to required standards and deadlines.
  
  
• Maintain integrity of general ledger accounts, including control and suspense reconciliations.
  
  
• Prepare and process cost recoveries for secondments, mutual aid, and partnership arrangements.
  
  
• Monitor and analyse treasury management data, including daily cash flow and investment performance.
  
  
• Reconcile bank accounts and ensure accuracy of transactions and records.
  
  
• Prepare and submit monthly VAT claims in accordance with HMRC requirements.
  
  
• Support year-end accounting processes and financial controls.
  
  
• Provide accurate financial advice and support to internal and external stakeholders.

Essential skills and experience:

• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with a commitment to customer service.
  
  
• Proven experience working accurately within a financial or accounting environment.
  
  
• Strong administrative and organisational skills, with the ability to prioritise and meet deadlines.
  
  
• Confident handling of financial data, correspondence, and various payment methods.
  
  
• Competent in the use of financial systems and Microsoft Office, particularly Excel (intermediate level).
  
  
• Experience using browser-based reporting tools and data extraction.
  
  
• Knowledge of police structures, internal systems, and purchasing codes (or ability to quickly learn).
  
  
• Experience handling scrutiny from external auditors or partners (e.g., banks, government bodies).
  
  
• Evidence of positions of trust or financial responsibility, particularly involving cash handling.
