We are currently recruiting for an Architectural Officer to join a Local Authority on a temporary basis, supporting the delivery of a varied programme of building design, refurbishment and capital projects.
This is a hands-on technical role suited to an experienced Architectural Officer, Architectural Technician, Architectural Technologist or similar building design professional with strong AutoCAD skills and experience working across new-build and refurbishment projects.
Working as part of the Building Design team, you will be responsible for supporting the design and delivery of a range of architectural schemes and contracts across the Council's property portfolio.

Working as part of the Building Design team, you will be responsible for supporting the design and delivery of a range of architectural schemes and contracts across the Council's property portfolio.
Projects may include:
- Housing – new build and remodelling.
- Education – new build, remodelling, repairs and maintenance.
- Corporate buildings – alterations, repairs and maintenance.
- Major refurbishment of Council buildings.
- Undertaking building surveys and site inspections.
- Producing architectural designs, drawings and technical information.
- Preparing schemes, contracts and associated project documentation.
- Using AutoCAD to produce accurate technical and architectural drawings.
- Supporting project management and site supervision activities.
- Working as part of a wider design team to develop schemes that meet client requirements, aspirations and budgets.
- Liaising with consultants and other members of the design team.
- Providing technical advice and recommendations to Council officers and stakeholders.
- Preparing drawings and information for exhibitions, working groups and committee purposes.
- Monitoring and addressing design and construction issues, keeping senior colleagues informed of progress and risks.
- Supporting the delivery of projects in accordance with the Council's capital review processes.
- Contributing to quality assurance and environmental management procedures.
- Ensuring appropriate health and safety and CDM requirements are considered throughout the design and construction process.
- Liaising with the Principal Designer and other appointed consultants to ensure relevant recommendations are incorporated into scheme designs.
You should have:
- Around 2 years' experience in an architectural/building design environment.
- Experience of new-build design.
- Experience of building refurbishment and renovation.
- Demonstrable competency in AutoCAD.
- Knowledge and understanding of CDM Regulations and health & safety requirements.
- Experience interpreting legislation, policies or procedures and providing appropriate recommendations or advice.
- Good understanding of building design and construction principles.
- Strong IT skills, including Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Strong attention to detail and the ability to produce accurate technical information.
- The ability to work effectively as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- The ability to organise and prioritise your workload, work to deadlines and manage competing priorities with minimum supervision.
Experience of working with and monitoring external design consultants, together with knowledge of quality assurance and environmental management procedures, would also be beneficial.
