A client within the Public Sector based in West Yorkshire is currently recruiting for an Area Service Manager – Highways to join their Highways & Infrastructure Team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full-time, temporary position on an ongoing basis, with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a highways engineering/operational management environment.

Key purpose of the role is to manage an operational service responsible for the design, procurement and construction management of highway infrastructure maintenance and winter service programmes in line with statutory obligations, policies, standards and specifications.

The Role
Key purpose of the role is to manage an operational service responsible for the design, procurement and construction management of highway infrastructure maintenance and winter service programmes in line with statutory obligations, policies, standards and specifications.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
- Managing staff, contractors, consultants and materials involved in the maintenance and construction of highway infrastructure.
- Overseeing budgets, agreeing contractual payments and delivering cost-effective maintenance programmes.
- Developing and managing both planned and reactive maintenance of highway assets, including winter services.
- Ensuring health and safety compliance across staff and depot operations.
- Managing internal and external supplier performance to achieve high-quality outcomes.
To be considered for this role, you will require:
- Extensive experience managing services within highways maintenance or related operational areas.
- Knowledge of health and safety legislation relevant to highway works and operations (including CDM and street works legislation).
- Proven experience of budget management and contractor/supplier performance monitoring.
- Strong leadership and team management capability including coaching and mentoring staff.
- Ability to manage competing priorities and adapt to changing demands.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills with the ability to develop productive stakeholder relationships.
