Assistant Residential Support Worker

You will support adults with severe and enduring mental health issues, learning disabilities, and other complex needs in a residential setting. The aim is to help individuals develop the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible within their community.

Contract Type: Temporary (3 months)
Hours: Full time - Varied shifts on a 4-week rota, including:
- Sleep-in: 12:00 pm – 23:00 pm, then 7:00 am – 12:30 pm
- Day shifts: 8:30 am – 16:00 pm, 9:00 am – 16:30 pm, 13:00 pm – 20:30 pm
- Includes 4–5 sleep-ins per month and alternate weekends
About the Role
You will support adults with severe and enduring mental health issues, learning disabilities, and other complex needs in a residential setting. The aim is to help individuals develop the skills and confidence to live as independently as possible within their community.
Key Responsibilities
- Support service users with daily living activities in line with agreed outcome plans
- Build respectful and positive relationships with service users and their families
- Continuously assess mental state and risks, and develop risk management plans
- Monitor health changes and report concerns appropriately
- Handle finances and medication administration
- Maintain cleanliness and domestic standards
- Record relevant information using IT systems
- Work collaboratively with colleagues and professionals
- Experience in adult residential care, particularly mental health, learning disabilities, and complex needs
- Understanding of mental health issues and their impact
- Experience assessing individual needs and managing risks
- Familiarity with safeguarding practices and data protection principles
- Knowledge of therapeutic interventions and care planning (desirable)
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build rapport
- Ability to work effectively in a team
- Competent in using IT systems for record-keeping
- Written and numerical skills equivalent to GCSE Grade C/4 or above in English and Maths
- Ability to work under pressure and manage challenging situations
- Must be a driver with access to own vehicle and appropriate business insurance
- Enhanced DBS with Adults Barred List Check required
- Willingness to work weekends, bank holidays, and sleep-in shifts
- Commitment to safeguarding and promoting welfare of vulnerable adults
- No personal care or manual handling required
