About the Role We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Behaviour Support Assistant to join a welcoming and inclusive primary school in Preston. The successful candidate will work closely with teaching staff, pastoral leads, and SEND teams to support pupils who present with behavioural, social, and emotional needs.

Key Responsibilities
- Provide 1:1 and small group support to pupils with behavioural or social, emotional, and mental health (SEMH) needs
- Implement behaviour management strategies aligned with school policies and EHCPs
- Support pupils in class, during transitions, and in unstructured times such as break and lunch
- Work collaboratively with class teachers, pastoral staff, and external agencies
- Support de-escalation and conflict-resolution strategies using a calm and positive approach
- Monitor pupil progress and maintain accurate behaviour logs and reports
- Promote emotional resilience, positive communication, and self-regulation techniques
- Build nurturing, respectful, and trusting relationships with pupils
- Contribute to personalised learning plans and behaviour intervention programmes
- Assist with safeguarding and uphold the school’s values and expectations
- Experience supporting children with behavioural needs, SEMH, ASD, ADHD, or similar
- Understanding of positive behaviour strategies and restorative approaches
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills
- Ability to remain calm under pressure and respond effectively in challenging situations
- A patient, empathetic, and resilient approach
- A commitment to safeguarding and promoting pupil wellbeing
- Experience within a primary school setting
- Team Teach / MAPA / PBM or similar de-escalation training
- Knowledge of SEND frameworks and EHCPs
- Level 2/3 Teaching Assistant qualification or equivalent
- A supportive SLT and pastoral team
