We are currently recruiting on behalf of a forward-thinking Local Authority for an experienced Building Surveying Manager to join its Housing Maintenance and Contracts service.
This is an excellent opportunity for an experienced Building Surveyor or Building Surveying Manager to take on a senior leadership position within a well-established housing service, overseeing a team of surveying professionals and playing a key role in the management, maintenance and improvement of a substantial housing stock.
The service delivers a wide range of responsive repairs, planned maintenance and major capital improvement programmes, with significant annual investment in housing. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to make a genuine impact on the quality of homes and services provided to residents while developing their own career within a supportive Local Authority environment.
The RoleAs Building Surveying Manager, you will provide professional leadership across the Building Surveying Service, managing a team of Building Surveyors and technical staff while also undertaking senior-level surveying responsibilities.
You will be responsible for ensuring that surveying programmes, projects and service activities are delivered effectively, safely, within budget and to the required quality standards.

Key responsibilities will include:
- Managing, supporting and developing a team of Building Surveyors and technical officers.
- Acting as a senior Building Surveyor, providing professional and technical advice across the housing service.
- Overseeing responsive repairs, planned maintenance and major capital improvement programmes.
- Managing and investigating housing defects, damp and mould cases, disrepair matters and other complex building-related issues.
- Overseeing party wall matters, tenant improvement applications, boundary disputes, EPCs, stock condition surveys and adaptations.
- Leading feasibility studies, preparing specifications, estimates, drawings and contract documentation.
- Project managing complex and high-value maintenance and improvement projects from inception through to completion.
- Supporting procurement exercises, including the preparation of detailed specifications and contract documentation.
- Monitoring project quality, cost, programme, health and safety and contractor performance.
- Providing professional advice to senior management and other stakeholders.
- Supporting service improvement initiatives and identifying opportunities to improve efficiency, quality and customer outcomes.
- Ensuring compliance with Building Regulations, CDM, health and safety legislation and other relevant statutory requirements.
- Preparing reports and presenting technical information to senior management and relevant committees where required.
- Managing complaints, disputes and complex customer or contractor issues through to resolution.
- Providing leadership and technical guidance to colleagues and supporting the continuous professional development of the team.
You will ideally have:
- Extensive post-qualification Building Surveying experience.
- Previous experience of supervising or managing surveying professionals.
- Strong knowledge of Building Surveying principles, Building Regulations and relevant legislation.
- Experience delivering maintenance, repair, refurbishment or improvement programmes.
- Strong project management and contract management experience.
- Experience preparing specifications, estimates and contract documentation.
- Knowledge of health and safety requirements, including CDM.
- Strong communication, negotiation and stakeholder management skills.
- The ability to manage competing priorities and deliver projects within time, cost and quality requirements.
- Experience working with tenants, contractors, consultants and other stakeholders.
- A proactive approach to service improvement and delivering high-quality customer-focused services.
