Location: Coventry
Service: Children’s Services
Grade: 5
Reports to: Team Manager

About Coventry City Council At Coventry City Council, we’re dedicated to making a positive difference for the people who live and work in our city. Our work improves lives – from helping families thrive to providing safe, green spaces and supporting people when they need it most.

As a valued member of our team, you’ll have access to continuous learning and development opportunities across a wide range of service areas, including Children’s and Adults’ Services, Education and Skills, and Public Health.

Our aim is simple: to be globally connected and locally committed, delivering outstanding services efficiently while keeping our residents at the heart of everything we do.

We’re proud to live by our One Coventry Values – working together, being open and fair, and making a real impact for our communities.

About the Role We’re looking for a Children and Family Worker to join our dedicated Children’s Services team in Coventry. This is a vital role where you’ll work directly with children, young people, and their families to help them achieve positive and sustainable change.

You’ll act as a Key Worker, managing a caseload of families with additional needs, providing assessment, planning, and direct interventions that make a real difference to their lives. Working in partnership with a range of agencies, you’ll help families build resilience and independence through coordinated, intensive support.

Key Responsibilities
  • Build trusted relationships with children, young people, and their families to support positive change.

  • Undertake assessments in line with local and national procedures.

  • Develop clear, outcome-focused family support plans in collaboration with families and partner agencies.

  • Deliver individual and group work interventions using recognised family support and parenting programmes.

  • Monitor, review, and evaluate the impact of interventions, adjusting support where necessary.

  • Contribute to professional reports, including those for court proceedings.

  • Maintain accurate records in accordance with departmental policies.

  • Participate in supervision, team meetings, and ongoing professional development.

  • Work flexibly, including evenings and weekends, to meet the needs of families.

About You You’ll be passionate about improving outcomes for children and families and have experience in delivering direct support to those facing complex challenges. You’ll be confident managing a caseload, leading family support plans, and engaging with multi-agency professionals.

You should have:

  • An NVQ Level 3 (or equivalent) in a childcare or related field, or equivalent experience within the Criminal Justice System.

  • Experience working with children, young people, parents, and carers in a support or intervention setting.

  • Strong communication, assessment, and organisational skills.

  • A sound understanding of child development, safeguarding, and family support frameworks.

  • Knowledge of evidence-based programmes such as Triple P, Strengthening Families, or Family Links.

  • The ability to engage effectively with hard-to-reach families and promote sustained change.

  • Flexibility to work evenings and weekends as needed.

This post is subject to an enhanced DBS check.

Working Relationships You’ll work closely with colleagues across Children’s Services as well as partners in Health, Education, Police, Housing, Probation, and the voluntary sector – ensuring a joined-up approach to supporting Coventry’s families.

Interested? If you’re passionate about making a tangible difference to children’s lives and supporting families to achieve lasting change, we’d love to hear from you.
