Experienced Children’s Social Worker – Stockton-on-Tees
37 Hours per Week | £31.71 UMB / £24.95 PAYE | Initial 3-Month Contract (Potential Extension)
We are currently recruiting on behalf of Stockton-on-Tees Borough Council for an Experienced Children’s Social Worker to join their Children’s Services team. This is an excellent opportunity to work in a supportive environment where your work will directly improve the lives of children, young people, and families.
About the Role
In this role, you will work with children, young people, and families who require coordinated social care support. This includes supporting children with Child in Need plans, Child Protection plans, and those involved in PLO or court proceedings.
You will play a key role in promoting safety, stability, and positive outcomes for children while working closely with families and partner agencies.

Key Responsibilities
- Carry out meaningful assessments that identify strengths, needs, and risks, creating clear and child-focused plans
- Build strong and trusting relationships with children, families, and carers to support positive change
- Lead and contribute to safeguarding enquiries, including responding to allegations of harm
- Prepare clear, analytical reports and maintain high-quality case recording
- Work collaboratively with partner agencies to deliver coordinated support that keeps children safe
- Engage in reflective practice, team development, and service improvement activities
- Represent the service in court proceedings, preparing robust evidence and presenting professional analysis where required
- A recognised Social Work qualification
- Registration with Social Work England
- Experience working in a frontline children’s social work position - 3 years perm post qualification in a Local Authority
- Knowledge of relevant legislation, policies, and statutory guidance
- Compassion, resilience, and excellent communication skills
- A full UK driving licence and access to a vehicle
- A flexible approach to meeting the needs of service users
- Competitive rate of £31.71 per hour UMB / £24.95 PAYE
- 37 hours per week
- Initial 3-month contract with potential for extension
