Children’s Social Worker – Duty & Assessment Team
Location: Shropshire Council
37 Hours per week
Hybrid Working | Duty Rota (Office-Based Every Other Week)
Full-Time | Locum -Initially 3 months - potential to extend

We are working on behalf of Shropshire Council and are seeking a confident practitioner to join their Duty & Assessment Team, where you will play a vital role in safeguarding children and promoting positive outcomes.
About the Role
As part of the fast-paced Duty & Assessment Team, you will undertake a range of statutory responsibilities, ensuring timely and effective intervention where children may be at risk of significant harm.

About the Role
As part of the fast-paced Duty & Assessment Team, you will undertake a range of statutory responsibilities, ensuring timely and effective intervention where children may be at risk of significant harm.
Your key responsibilities will include:
- Completing Single Assessments (SWA)
- Undertaking Section 47 investigations
- Preparing reports for Section 7 and Section 37
- Completing initial Child in Need (CIN) meetings
- Attending and facilitating Child Protection (CP) Core Groups
- Preparing court statements and care plans where required
- Attending initial court hearings when necessary
Working Arrangements
- Every other week on Duty – office-based presence required.
- On non-duty weeks, you will manage your own diary, combining:
- Home working
- Follow-up visits
- Case recording and report writing
- Qualified Social Worker (Degree in Social Work or equivalent)
- Registered with Social Work England
- Experience in Duty & Assessment / Frontline Children’s Services - 3 years post qualification
- Strong knowledge of child protection procedures and court work
- Confident in managing risk and making defensible decisions
- Ability to work both independently and within a team
- Supportive management and regular supervision
- Hybrid working model
