About the Role:
We are seeking experienced former Officers or Detectives to join the Metropolitan Police Service as Civilian Investigators within the Public Protection portfolio. This role is ideal for professionals with recent Rape and Serious Sexual Offence (RASSO) and relevant BCU experience, who are passionate about delivering justice for victims of serious crime.

You will play a key part in supporting Detectives investigating serious and complex offences—including rape, serious sexual assault, child abuse, and domestic abuse. Working as part of a dedicated Public Protection team, you will help deliver victim-centred and suspect-focused investigations under the framework of Op Soteria, a national programme aimed at improving investigative standards for RASSO cases.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Take written statements and video-recorded evidence from victims and witnesses.

  • Review CCTV footage and conduct other investigative enquiries, including house-to-house visits.

  • Identify and support vulnerable persons throughout investigations, ensuring appropriate safeguarding and regular updates.

  • Collaborate effectively with partner agencies, including Children’s and Adults’ Social Care, Health, and Education.

  • Assist in gathering, reviewing, and collating documentary and third-party evidence.

  • Support major, non-recent, and cold case investigations, including operations such as Op Granbury (e.g., reviewing survivor applications, completing checks via police indices, and obtaining external information).

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • Proven investigative background with experience in statement taking, victim interviewing, and evidence collation.

  • Strong working knowledge of criminal law and police procedures.

  • Ability to appraise, evaluate, and present information and evidence accurately and efficiently.

  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to engage confidently with victims, witnesses, colleagues, and partner agencies.

  • Self-motivated, disciplined, and capable of working independently or as part of a team.

  • PIP2 accreditation is desirable but not essential.
