Commercial Asset Surveyor
Location: Kent
Contract: Temporary
Hours: 37 hours per week, Monday to Friday (Hybrid working available)
Rate: £230 per day PAYE / £300 per day Umbrella
A Local Authority in Kent is currently seeking an experienced Commercial Asset Surveyor to join its Environment, Property & Recreation service on an initial 3-month temporary assignment.
This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor or Asset Surveyor with experience of commercial and corporate property assets to play a key role in the inspection, maintenance and management of a diverse public-sector portfolio.
You will provide technical surveying support across a varied range of commercial and corporate assets, with responsibility for:
MRICS qualification, BOHS P405 Management of Asbestos in Buildings and experience with EPC/DEC assessments would also be beneficial.
This is a safety-critical role and will involve site inspections, lone working and occasional working at height. Appropriate PPE will be provided.

This is an excellent opportunity for a Building Surveyor or Asset Surveyor with experience of commercial and corporate property assets to play a key role in the inspection, maintenance and management of a diverse public-sector portfolio.
You will provide technical surveying support across a varied range of commercial and corporate assets, with responsibility for:
- Carrying out detailed condition surveys, statutory inspections and accessibility audits.
- Identifying building defects, assessing building pathology and recommending appropriate repair solutions.
- Preparing comprehensive condition reports, including photographs, drawings, costings, priorities and timescales.
- Assessing asset life expectancy and future maintenance requirements.
- Organising and monitoring planned and reactive maintenance works.
- Preparing specifications, obtaining quotations and instructing contractors.
- Inspecting completed works and ensuring repairs are delivered to the required standard.
- Carrying out insurance-related site inspections and maintaining accurate records.
- Supporting compliance with asbestos, fire safety, legionella, electrical testing, gas safety, lifts and other statutory requirements.
- Maintaining accurate asset-management records, including GIS data where applicable.
- Carrying out measured surveys and producing drawings, plans, elevations and building models using AutoCAD.
- Undertaking accessibility audits and identifying required improvements.
- Supporting the maintenance and inspection of a diverse range of council assets, which may include buildings, car parks, roads, bus stops, signage, street lighting and other infrastructure.
- Liaising with tenants, colleagues, contractors and external partners.
- Providing professional technical advice to managers and colleagues.
- An HNC/HND in Building Surveying, or equivalent qualification or demonstrable equivalent experience.
- Level 2 AutoCAD.
- IOSH Managing Safely.
- Strong experience in property inspection, surveying and building condition assessment.
- A good understanding of building pathology and the ability to identify structural and building defects.
- Experience of organising, instructing and monitoring planned and reactive maintenance.
- Knowledge of asbestos management, CDM Regulations 2015 and statutory maintenance requirements.
- Experience preparing specifications, obtaining quotations and supervising contractors.
- The ability to assess repair requirements and recommend practical remedial solutions.
- Excellent written communication and report-writing skills.
- Strong organisation and prioritisation skills.
- A full driving licence, as regular site visits will be required.
