A client within the Public Sector based in Leicestershire is currently recruiting for a Conservation Officer to join their Planning and Development team as soon as possible. The client is offering a full time, temporary position on an ongoing basis with the ideal candidate having experience of working within a local authority within a planning and conservation environment.
The Role
Key purpose of the role
To play a key role in protecting and enhancing the District’s historic environment by providing expert advice and guidance on conservation and historic building matters, supporting planning decisions, and contributing to regeneration and growth initiatives.
Key responsibilities will include but not be limited to:
• Assessing and making recommendations on listed building consent applications
• Providing specialist conservation advice to the Planning and Development team and external customers
• Preparing appeal statements and representing the authority at Hearings, Public Inquiries and Magistrates’ Courts
• Carrying out conservation area appraisals, preparing Article 4 Directions and Management Plans
• Undertaking Buildings at Risk surveys and supporting designation of new conservation areas
The Candidate
To be considered for this role you will require:
• A degree in Conservation, Historic Building Conservation, Town Planning, Architecture or a related discipline
• Membership of or eligibility for membership of a relevant professional body (e.g. IHBC or RTPI)
• Demonstrable experience in conservation and historic building work within a local authority setting
The below skills would be beneficial for the role:
• Strong knowledge of planning legislation relating to listed buildings and conservation areas
• Experience preparing appeal statements and presenting evidence at hearings or inquiries
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to provide clear professional advice
The client is looking to move quickly with this role and as such are offering £26 per hour Umbrella LTD Inside IR35 (approx. £20 per hour PAYE).
