Birmingham Children’s Trust are seeking dedicated and reliable Children’s Contact Workers to join their team. This is a rewarding opportunity to make a real difference to the lives of children and families across the city.
About the Role As a Children’s Contact Worker, you will transport and supervise children and young people in care during family contact sessions. You’ll ensure that every session is safe, positive, and conducted in line with safeguarding procedures.
You will also work closely with social workers and other professionals to plan and deliver contact sessions across Birmingham and occasionally the wider West Midlands.

About the Role As a Children’s Contact Worker, you will transport and supervise children and young people in care during family contact sessions. You’ll ensure that every session is safe, positive, and conducted in line with safeguarding procedures.
You will also work closely with social workers and other professionals to plan and deliver contact sessions across Birmingham and occasionally the wider West Midlands.
Key Responsibilities
- Safely collect, transport, and return children to their placements following contact sessions.
- Supervise and support contact sessions between children and their families.
- Keep accurate, detailed records of each contact using Birmingham Children’s Trust’s child database (BCT).
- Write clear and professional contact notes and reports.
- Liaise with social care teams to plan weekly contact sessions across the service.
- Maintain a safe and welcoming environment in contact venues.
- Work flexibly to meet the needs of the service — hours are typically 11:00am to 7:00pm (36.5 hours per week).
- Must hold a full UK driving licence, have access to your own vehicle, and hold business car insurance.
- Must be able to communicate effectively and work confidently with children and young people aged 0–17.
- Experience working directly with children in a professional, voluntary, or personal capacity.
- Strong understanding of safeguarding and confidentiality.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work independently and manage your time effectively.
- Flexibility to cover contact sessions across Birmingham and the West Midlands.
- Qualification in childcare or a related field.
- Knowledge of car safety legislation when transporting children.
