Crime Analyst - Operation Hydrant

Location: Moss Way Police Station, Moss Way, Sheffield, S20 7XX (Hybrid 60/40 Split)
Alternate Team: Beaconport: Fully WFH with occasional travel to team days (expenses paid)
Contract: 3 month contract with likely extension
Hours: 37 hours per week (Monday-Friday) 9am-5pm
Pay Rate: £20.98 PAYE / £26.65 LTD per hour

About the Role:

Operation Hydrant is the national coordination hub for non-recent child sexual abuse investigations involving people of public prominence and/or institutional settings.

This Analyst role supports national policing by delivering insight-led analysis, not volume reporting. The post holder will work with sensitive, complex datasets relating to child protection and CSA, producing analytical products that inform tactical, operational, and strategic decisions across UK police forces.

This is not a churn-style analytics role. You will be expected to interpret data, identify meaning, challenge assumptions, and confidently articulate findings.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Analyse crime-related and child protection datasets, with a focus on CSA and non-recent abuse

  • Work with multiple data sources, applying quantitative, qualitative, and statistical techniques

  • Heavy use of Excel to manipulate data, identify trends, and produce structured outputs

  • Develop dashboards, visual products, and performance reports (increasing use of Power BI)

  • Interpret Management of Offending (MO) data across all UK forces

  • Identify anomalies, emerging risks, and performance issues, and explain them clearly

  • Present findings within the analytical team and wider stakeholders, contributing to open professional challenge

  • Handle highly sensitive investigative material with discretion, professionalism, and emotional resilience

Essential skills and experience:

  • Strong analytical background with demonstrable experience handling complex datasets

  • Advanced Excel skills (essential)

  • Ability to turn raw data into insight, narrative, and defensible conclusions

  • Confidence presenting analysis and discussing findings openly

  • Proven ability to handle sensitive or distressing material responsibly

  • Experience in crime, CSA, or child protection data

  • Exposure to policing, government, or public-sector environments

  • Power BI experience or demonstrable capability to develop in it quickly
