About the Role:

This is a high-volume, deadline-driven Data Protection role focused almost entirely on the end-to-end processing of Subject Access Requests (SARs).

You will work within the Alliance Information Management Department, supporting compliance with the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR across both Forces. Due to a significant SAR backlog, this role requires focus, resilience, and sustained accuracy under pressure.

This is not a varied or creative role. It involves repetitive tasks, intensive VDU work, and exposure to potentially distressing material

Key Responsibilities:

  • Managing the full lifecycle of Subject Access Requests, ensuring statutory deadlines (one calendar month) are met

  • Researching and retrieving personal data from multiple Force systems

  • Reviewing large volumes of text-based information to accurately identify personal data relevant to applicants

  • Making defensible disclosure decisions and clearly justifying those decisions

  • Handling challenges and disputes regarding disclosures, escalating where appropriate

  • Liaising with internal departments to gather required information

  • Providing clear, accurate advice to internal and external stakeholders on SAR processes

  • Supporting delivery of Data Protection training and workshops

  • Maintaining records of mandatory Data Protection training compliance

  • Supporting wider Data Protection and Information Sharing activity as required

Essential skills and experience:

  • Knowledge of the Data Protection Act 2018 and UK GDPR

  • Understanding of disclosure principles

  • Strong attention to detail and accuracy

  • Ability to process and analyse large volumes of written information

  • Sound decision-making and the ability to justify decisions clearly

  • Ability to meet strict deadlines in a pressured environment

  • Strong written communication skills (letters and reports)

  • Competence in Microsoft Office applications

  • Willingness to work towards a formal Data Protection qualification (if not already held)
