About the Role:
Gloucestershire Constabulary is seeking an experienced and qualified professional to serve as the Force Data Protection Officer and Freedom of Information Officer. This pivotal role provides expert advice on Data Protection, FOI, and Information Sharing, ensuring compliance with national legislation and Constabulary policies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Act as the Force Data Protection and Freedom of Information Officer per APP guidance.
- Authorise information disclosures on behalf of the Chief Constable.
- Be the primary liaison with the Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) and manage S55 Data Breaches.
- Provide strategic advice on legislation, compliance, and Privacy Impact Assessments.
- Manage the Information Disclosure Team, including staff performance and training.
- Maintain and implement FOI and Data Protection training programmes across the force.
- Ensure all disclosures and data sharing are legally compliant and follow best practice.
- Develop Data Processing Agreements and liaise with external partners.
- Represent the Constabulary at regional and national meetings as required.
Essential skills and experience:
- Professional Data Protection and/or FOI qualification (Part 2 and Part 3 highly desirable).
- Significant experience in Data Protection / FOI, including strategic decision-making.
- Experience managing a team and working in a confidential environment.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills, with excellent attention to detail.
- DP Qualified (Part 2 and Part 3)
- Accountability for strategic decisions
- Proven experience in data protection, ideally public sector
